As food photographers and videographers, personal creative projects are a great way to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the studio. Our latest project features a fun, dynamic drinks video where a Kees Bier can rolls through a custom-made pinball machine decor. This was an opportunity to experiment with their vibrant, playful packaging. The bold colors and zig-zag patterns inspired us to design a set that complemented the can’s unique look, and we also created a striking still image to add to our drinks photography portfolio.
After brainstorming ideas and storyboarding, we designed and built a set that captured the energy of the can’s design. The main challenges we encountered during production were nailing the perfect speed for the rolling can and keeping it in frame with smooth camera tracking. Special attention was paid to lighting to bring out the textures and colors that would pop in both the video and still images. While video allows for movement and flow, food photography demands precision with lighting, so each shot needed to be carefully crafted to highlight the details in this still frame.
Once we captured the footage, we moved into editing, where we used Photoshop to enhance the still images. From retouching to color adjustments, the editing process was key to perfecting the final look of the image. In photography, lighting and composition take center stage, so even more care was needed to get the perfect still shot. The end result was a bright and playful visual that not only showcases the beer but also demonstrates the power of creative photography and videography.
