As food photographers and specialists in product photography, we embraced the challenge of working with a different type of product this time: silk flowers. Sabrina de Bruin wanted a timeless look for the photos, so we held a brainstorming session together to determine the color schemes and backgrounds for each flower collection. We drew inspiration from the still lifes of the old Dutch Masters, with dramatic lighting and rich colors at the forefront.
In this assignment, our task was to capture the silk flowers as lifelike as possible. This perfectly aligns with the craftsmanship of Sabrina de Bruin’s Flower Artist, which specializes in the most realistic silk flowers and plants. As stated on her website: “The quality and authenticity of the silk flowers are closely monitored. No silk flowers are presented that do not match in color or shape with those found in nature.” Through our experience in product photography, we were able to create the perfect images that reflect the artistic approach of Flower Artist with the right light and setting.
The result of this collaboration was a series of images that not only reflect the beauty of the silk flowers but also the sustainable and artistic vision of Sabrina’s atelier. As product photographers, we always strive to convey the story of a product in a way that is both visually appealing and commercially effective. The quality, timeless look of these photos seamlessly aligns with the atmosphere and quality that Flower Artist creates daily with their flowers, inspired by the old masters. This project was a fantastic way to combine our expertise in food photography with a unique product that represents craftsmanship and creativity.
